The inside has been designed to feel like a home,
but function as a well run daycare.
When you walk in there’s a bench with cubbies where children keep their items for the day and put their shoes. To minimize the dirt and germs tracked in we wear just our socks or slippers inside. The main room has various types of toys, sensory materials, puzzles, a play kitchen, baby dolls and musical instruments.
We have two children sized table and chairs where we eat our meals and do crafts. We do a minimum of two crafts a week. Coloring materials are always available. Around the corner of the couch is a very cozy nook with pillows, books, and stuffed animals.
The spacious kitchenette is directly across from the main play room so children are still easily monitored while meals or crafts are being prepared. We provide an optional breakfast to those that arrive before 8:45, as well as snacks. Families provide their child with their own packed lunch. We keep a menu posted on the kitchen bulletin board.
Our refrigerator has magnetic photo holders, that way children can have a couple pictures of their family in the daycare. It’s a small way that helps the space feel more homey and familiar to the little ones.
The green playroom is directly adjacent to the main room. This area has a second soft corner with a basket of toddler board books and stuffed animals. There’s a small table and chairs for puzzles and quiet table activities. A dollhouse, little people and animal figurines that await the storyteller child. There are bins of various type of blocks and building toys, as well as cars and trucks of all kinds to drive around the floor. There is a soft low level soft climbing structure, sensory and texture toys, and the closet where we store all the napping mats and bedding, and additional toys that we rotate depending on the season and/or to just keep things a little more interesting for the children.
